VTU honours Rajyotsava and Suvarna Karnataka awardees

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum celebrated Karnataka Rajyotsava on Wednesday, 27th November 2024 by organizing a felicitation programme and instrumental concert for the achievers selected for Rajyotsava and this year’s special Suvarna Karnataka Award from Belgaum district.
The celebration began with the Rajyotsava celebrations of VTU with the performance of Karnataka’s traditional famous dance “Dollu Kunitha,” “Karade Majalu” and “Veer Gase” art forms.

Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan was the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vidyashankar He presided. Adichunchanagiri University Registrar Prof. C.K. Subbaraya was the guest of honour. Registrar Prof. B.E. Rangaswamy, Registrar, Evaluation, Prof. T.N.Srinivas, Financial Officer, Dr. Prashanth Nayak was present. .At the beginning of the programme, Dr. Balasaheb Lokapur, Suvarna Karnataka awardees Shri S. M. Chalavadi and Smt.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Roshan, Deputy Commissioner of Belgaum, shared his love and admiration for Kannada. “Though I am from Hyderabad, I can speak Kannada fluently and in all situations, so Kannada is my mother tongue.” “” “” “I learnt Kannada in just 22 days when I was the district collector in Hassan.” “If I can learn Kannada in 22 days as an IAS officer, why can’t students from different parts of India learn it in 2-3 months?He encouraged the audience, especially the students, to learn and speak Kannada. Shri Roshan said that our mind should yearn to learn new languages, words because new learning gives rise to new meaning. “Learning a new language gives a new meaning to life. He said that if words are not available for use in our language, we can use words of other language and associate with our mother tongue but the use of this alien language should not spoil the beauty of our language. “India as a nation is a confluence of different cultures, and similarly, Karnataka is a state with many worlds,” he said, beautifully portraying the uniqueness of the state.
The function was presided over by Prof. Vidyashankar S. He stressed the importance of education in the mother tongue. Mother tongue is the language of the heart. He said that if one learns something in the mother tongue, it is well understood and remembered forever. Mother tongue teaches skills along with the knowledge of the subject. He elaborated on the efforts made by the University along with AICTE in the implementation of technical education in regional languages.
Prof. C. K. Subburaya was the chief guest. Prof. Rangaswamy welcomed the gathering. Thank you Srinivas. After the stage programme, cultural programmes were performed by the students .
