“A Big Mistake A Small Punishment…!”

Attack on the conductor

Who Ordered the POCSO Case?
A Big Mistake – A Small Punishment…!”

MARIHAL CPI TRANSFERRED

Belagavi – When we closely observe the attack on the conductor and the subsequent developments, it is evident that the police department made a grave mistake. This is not just an opinion from a random person; even three ministers have explicitly mentioned it.

Due to this police error, the harmony between Karnataka and Maharashtra has been affected. Now, even the Police Commissioner, Ida Martin Marbanyang, has publicly admitted that the CPI was at fault. Given the magnitude of the mistake, the punishment imposed by senior officers appears insufficient, leading to concerns that Kannada-speaking people are being misled.

What Was the Demand of Kannada Activists?

After a POCSO case was filed against a Kannada-speaking conductor, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists were enraged. Their anger manifested in acts such as defacing Maharashtra government buses. Additionally, Narayan Gowda led the “Balekundri Chalo” movement to respond to the miscreants on their own ground.

Before this, Narayan Gowda had sent a warning demanding the withdrawal of the POCSO case and the suspension of the CPI responsible. However, just before Narayan Gowda arrived in Belagavi, the complainant’s family released a video stating they were withdrawing the POCSO case voluntarily. Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner transferred the CPI from Marihal police station to another location.

Despite this, Kannada activists remain dissatisfied, as the conductor and his family suffered immense mental harassment due to the wrongful POCSO case. The conductor was pushed to a state of despair, shedding tears daily. The activists argue that the CPI should have been suspended without hesitation to set an example for others.

The Strength of KRV

Regardless of what others say, if pro-Kannada organizations had not raised their voices in border areas like Belagavi, atrocities against Kannadigas would have continued unchecked. Organizations like the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike have fearlessly fought on the frontlines despite police lathi charges and legal actions. Their persistent efforts have compelled even the government to take notice multiple times.

In the Balekundri incident, had Kannada activists not spoken up for the conductor, the police might have ensured he was jailed under the POCSO case.

Serious Consideration Required

When such incidents occur, district ministers must take them seriously. No matter who is at fault, they should be given strict punishment. In the conductor’s case, the CPI made a major mistake, and the action taken against him should serve as a lesson for others. However, merely transferring him instead of suspending him completely is a stain on the government’s credibility.

District Minister Satish Jarkiholi now faces the crucial responsibility of ensuring justice. Let’s wait and see what decision is made.
