Appointment of Zonal Commissioners in Belagavi City Corporation: A Step Towards Administrative Improvement
Belagavi: In a major decision aimed at reducing the inconvenience faced by the public, the Belagavi City Corporation has decided to appoint zonal commissioners. The decision was made recently in a meeting attended by Mayor Mangesh Pawar and Deputy Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi.
As part of the initiative, City Corporation Commissioner Shubha B has been instructed to take immediate steps to implement the decision. However, the official appointment orders have not yet been issued.
Currently, all administrative matters require visits to the City Corporation headquarters. However, there have been frequent complaints that the issues raised by the public are not being addressed effectively at the main office. Taking these concerns seriously, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor held discussions with MLA Abhay Patil and later consulted with the City Corporation Commissioner regarding the appointment of zonal commissioners.
Finally, the Commissioner was directed to proceed with the appointment of zonal commissioners to ensure better convenience for the public.
Why is this appointment necessary?
To enhance the efficiency of administration in Belagavi City Corporation, the decision to appoint zonal commissioners is being implemented. The move is expected to improve city governance, accelerate service delivery, and provide quicker solutions to public grievances.
Centralized administration has often created bottlenecks in municipal governance, making it challenging for a single commissioner to manage a large city effectively. By appointing separate commissioners for each zone, local-level problem-solving will become more streamlined and efficient.
How will this benefit the public?
Waste management: Faster resolution of garbage disposal and sanitation issues in different zones.
Road maintenance: Improved supervision of road repairs, potholes, and roadside cleanliness.
Water supply & sewage management: Better monitoring of drinking water supply and underground drainage systems.
Building permits & business licenses: Quicker processing of construction permits, trade licenses, and other approvals.
Curbing Illegal Activities
In recent years, there have been increasing complaints about unauthorized constructions, encroachments on public roads, and improper urban development in Belagavi. By appointing zonal commissioners, stricter monitoring will be possible. This system will ensure better implementation of laws and protection of public assets.
Quick Resolution of Public Complaints
Citizens will now be able to directly approach their respective zonal commissioners for a faster resolution of their grievances. This will eliminate the need to visit the main City Corporation office, making the administrative process more efficient and accessible at the local level. The initiative is expected to bridge the gap between the public and municipal authorities.
Positive Reception in Belagavi
The idea of appointing zonal commissioners has been widely welcomed in Belagavi. It is expected to accelerate urban development and improve the quality of public services. However, the exact timeline for the appointment process remains unclear, and residents of Belagavi eagerly await its implementation.
“As the city’s boundaries expand, the need for effective governance becomes more critical. Appointing zonal commissioners will improve administration and service efficiency.
The government has already approved the decision, and zonal commissioners can be appointed from Group A or B officers within the municipal administration,” said Shubha B, Commissioner, Belagavi City Corporation.
What does the Commissioner say?
A Much-Needed Decision
