Deputy Mayor Exposes the Hidden Rent Dealings of Private Educational Institutions

Belagavi:

The Belagavi City Corporation has resolved to take strict action against private educational institutions that are maximizing profits by evading ground rent payments.

In the corporation’s general body meeting, Deputy Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi criticized three educational institutions in her ward for using public land for commercial purposes without paying the required ground rent to the corporation.

“This is illegal. A comprehensive investigation must be carried out and action should be taken against such institutions,” she demanded, receiving support from several other members.

Nominated member Ramesh Sontakke stated, “The Deputy Mayor’s point is very important. Private educational institutions must pay ground rent regularly. There are many such institutions in Belagavi, and if taxes are properly collected from them, our corporation can become one of the richest in the state.”

Leader of the ruling party, Hanumanth Kongali, also extended his support to the proposal. Ultimately, the Mayor ordered officials to prepare a list of all such institutions in the city that are avoiding rent payments and initiate action against them.

Like Sending a Lame Horse to War!”

Belagavi: Criticizing the inefficiency of some officers in the Belagavi City Corporation, ruling party leader Hanumanth Kongali remarked sarcastically, “How can you expect results when you send a lame horse to war?”

This statement was made in response to an unsatisfactory explanation given by legal officers regarding the Tilakwadi Club dispute. He implied that without proper justification from officials, the corporation’s functioning cannot be effective.
