In a meeting held today, a delegation led by Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil urged for an early election, and the Regional Commissioner assured them that as soon as the voter list is received from the Corporation, a date will be set.

A special general meeting of the Belagavi City Corporation is scheduled for the 1st of this month. During this meeting, a proposal regarding the cancellation of membership of two city councilors will be discussed and forwarded to the Regional Commissioner. The election date may be finalized after that.

Sign of Political Manipulation?

MLA Abhay Patil has accused the Congress-led state government of illegally attempting to revoke memberships in BJP-majority municipal corporations across the state.

He alleged that even after the term of the Belagavi City Corporation Mayor has ended, the government is pressuring the Regional Commissioner to delay the election. He emphasized the need for elections to be conducted immediately.

Regarding the cancellation of membership of two councilors, Patil stated that the case is in the High Court, and he is confident of victory. A complaint regarding the issue has also been submitted to the Governor, who has written to the state government about it.
