The Sangam Snan (holy bath at the confluence of rivers) holds immense significance in Hinduism. The word Sangam refers to the meeting point of two or more rivers.

According to Hindu scriptures, such confluences are considered extremely sacred. One of the most renowned Sangam locations in India is Prayagraj (Allahabad), where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers merge. During the Kumbh Mela, millions of devotees take a dip here, believing it grants them moksha (liberation from sins).

The glory of the Sangam bath is described in various scriptures and religious texts. It is believed to cleanse not just the body but also the mind and soul, bringing purity and peace. Devotees consider it a symbol of unity and spiritual renewal. Beyond religious significance, the Sangam Snan also strengthens social and cultural bonds as communities come together to perform rituals.

Many devotees from Belagavi have participated in this sacred bath. Abhay Patil, MLA from Belagavi South, along with his wife, took a holy dip at the Sangam. Senior advocate Raviraj Patil also participated in the ritual.

Notably, several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, along with their families, took part in the Sangam Snan.

One interesting aspect observed was that some devotees took the holy dip while holding portraits of Satish Jarkiholi, the district in-charge minister, proclaiming him as the “future Chief Minister.” Similarly, some devotees carried photos of Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi while taking the sacred bath.

Additionally, C.T. Ravi also participated in the Sangam Snan, emphasizing the deep religious and cultural significance of the event.
