Police Dragging Themselves into Unnecessary Controversies

It seems the Belagavi police have a habit of inviting unnecessary controversies. If they don’t stir up trouble, they feel unsettled. The recent clash between Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar and MLC C.T. Ravi in the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha is a clear example of how Belagavi police officers got entangled in controversies while trying to appease someone.

One would expect the police to learn from such incidents and tread carefully to avoid future embarrassments. However, in their eagerness to please certain individuals, the police have once again landed themselves in a major mess, causing significant trouble for the government.

POCSO Case in a Bus with 125 Passengers?

Can a senior conductor in a fully packed bus behave in a manner that warrants a POCSO case? Even the most naive person would answer with a resounding “no.” But surprisingly, the police, who are supposed to uphold the law and understand justice, failed to grasp this simple logic. This raises serious questions about their judgment.

Appeasing Marathi Interests

The fact that a POCSO case was filed against transport official Mahadev Hukkeri by the accused themselves suggests political interference. This incident, which occurred in the rural areas of Belagavi, has now escalated into a conflict between two states.

However, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, the Minister for Women and Child Welfare and the local MLA, has not yet condemned the incident. It appears that she fears upsetting the Marathi-speaking community and losing their vote bank. What’s even more shocking is that none of the BJP leaders in Belagavi have spoken up about this issue, further fueling the anger of Kannadigas.

What Happened Today?

The Marihal Police had filed a POCSO case against Mahadev Hukkeri, the transport official who was assaulted and left traumatized. Strongly condemning this, activists from Karave and Kittoor Karnataka Sena staged a road blockade and even laid siege to the Marihal Police Station in protest.
