Belagavi: BJP MLA Abhay Patil has emerged victorious in a legal battle against the Congress-led state government.
He successfully defended his stance in the case regarding the disqualification of two BJP corporators from the Belagavi City Corporation.
The government had disqualified Jayant Jadhav and Mangesh Pawar, two BJP corporators, over the “Tinisu Katte” case. As soon as this order was issued, MLA Abhay Patil strongly opposed the Regional Commissioner. In response, his political opponents accused him and wrote to the government against him.
While this controversy was unfolding, a legal battle began. Initially, when the case was taken to the High Court, the court directed the petitioners to first appeal to the government.
Meanwhile, Abhay Patil directly complained to the Governor against the Regional Commissioner. The court later ordered a clear explanation regarding the disqualification case. Subsequently, the Urban Development Department heard the appeal filed by the disqualified corporators.
However, the corporators’ plea was dismissed. In response, a petition was filed in the Bengaluru court against the government’s decision. The court, after hearing arguments from the corporators’ lawyers, issued a stay order against the disqualification.
A key takeaway from the court’s ruling is that both disqualified corporators can contest elections and even become candidates. This development has cemented Abhay Patil’s reputation as a leader who successfully took on the government and won.
Abhay Stands by His Word!
Most importantly, Abhay Patil is fondly called “Ruhumb Gowda” by his supporters. Known as the “Kingmaker” in Belagavi politics, he has never backed down from his commitments.
During the BJP Mayor’s tenure, the Congress government had issued a Super Session Notice to the Belagavi City Corporation, attempting to take control. At that time, Abhay Patil single-handedly fought against the move and emerged victorious.
Now, in the case of the two corporators’ disqualification, he has once again stood by his promise and delivered on his commitment.
Two days ago, Abhay Patil held a closed-door meeting with all BJP corporators at a private hotel. According to sources, during the meeting, he assured them that the disqualified corporators would participate in the elections. His words have now turned into reality.
High Tension!
According to sources, the High Court has expressed dissatisfaction with the Regional Commissioner and the government’s order. Reportedly, the court criticized the IAS officer involved, questioning their competence, and remarked, “Who trained this officer? We might have to retrain them ourselves!”
This strong rebuke from the court highlights the pressure-driven and questionable decisions made by the government and its officials.
With this legal victory, Abhay Patil has once again proved his political strength and determination in Belagavi.
