Whenever there is mention of a powerful leader countering the state government’s moves in the political crisis of the Belagavi City Corporation, the name of Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil comes to the forefront.
In all times of crisis, Abhay Patil, known as the ‘friend in need’ of the corporation, has once again stepped forward to strongly oppose the government’s blind law.

The fighter protecting the corporation

It was nothing new for the Congress-led government, during its tenure, to trouble the BJP-run corporation through notices.
At such times, MLA Abhay Patil had shielded the corporation like a wall of steel.

No one can forget the sharp and logical replies he gave that saved the corporation from being superseded.
At that time, the government machinery had issued a notice to the corporation demanding a reply within seven days. But the notice first reached the commissioner and was arranged to reach the mayor with a delay.
Abhay Patil faced all this effectively and met the Governor, thereby halting the Congress’s political drama midway.
Later, the clash that arose during the appointment of 138 PKs was also settled thanks to the timely mediation of Abhay Patil.

Another legal battle begins

Now once again, the state government is attempting to corner the corporation.
Before BJP’s Jayant Jadhav and Mangesh Pawar became corporators, they had taken a shop in a tin shed in their wives’ names. Their membership has now been canceled solely on the grounds that they have not returned it yet.
The Regional Commissioner has issued an order canceling their membership. A legal battle has now begun.

Abhay Patil has now emerged as the leader of this fight. “This is not just a struggle to save membership; this is a fight to uphold the honor and self-respect of our local autonomous bodies,” he asserts with confidence.

Another humiliation for the government?

The clear opinion in local political circles is that these two corporators will definitely re-enter the corporation. It seems certain that the government will once again face embarrassment on this Belagavi political stage.
