Belagavi Special
Belagavi.
In the caste–sub-caste list released by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, Christian sub-castes have been inserted right next to Hindu castes.

From Brahmins to Kurubas, Lambanis, Banjaras, Banajigas, Bestas, Billavas, Budugs, Devangas, Edigas, Jangamas, Gollas and hundreds of other communities, the word “Christian” has been tagged alongside. Community leaders have lashed out, calling this a conspiracy to erase the religious identity of Hindus.

Anti-Hindu Government
The Hindu Janajagruti Vedike of Belagavi has leveled serious charges against the Congress-led state government. They allege this is a deliberate attempt to weaken and divide the Hindu community.
They have accused the state government of a policy aimed at artificially “Christianizing” Hindu castes and sub-castes.

Which castes have “Christian” added?

Brahmin – Brahmin Christian (Code 209)

Banjara – Banjara Christian (Codes 125, 135)

Jadaga – Jadaga Christian (Codes 217, 489)

Kuruba – Kuruba Christian (Code 740)

Lambani – Lambani Christian (Code 756)

Madiga – Madiga Christian (Code 803)
In total, more than 40 Hindu castes and sub-castes have been clubbed with “Christian.”

The community’s question
Are we Brahmins? Vokkaligas? Kurubas? Or have we all suddenly become Christians?
This question is now echoing in every corner of the state.

Leaders of the Vedike have declared that the spark of resistance will be lit from Belagavi itself.

Political silence – support to conspiracy ?

Even though the controversy has triggered state-wide debate, political leaders have remained silent.
This silence has only deepened suspicion – is it tacit support to the government’s anti-Hindu stance?

This survey is being seen as a dangerous plot to destabilize and diminish the existence of Hindu society. If the government fails to act immediately, the agitation beginning from Belagavi will spread across the state.
