Karnataka Leading the Way Towards Continuous Water Supply

Sustainable Water – A Model Experiment by the State

Belagavi:
India is steadily but firmly moving towards achieving a sustainable and continuous water supply system, said Rajesh Advani, representative of the World Bank.

He was speaking to residents after inspecting the ongoing 24×7 water supply project in Chidambara Nagar, the ward of Belagavi City Corporation Deputy Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi.

Karnataka is one of the leading states in this nationwide effort. The government’s pilot projects in three cities are expected to soon become models for replication across the country, Advani noted.

He emphasized that citizen participation and the cooperation of local bodies at every stage are key to the project’s success. Road excavation, pipeline installation, and restoration works are progressing smoothly with strong public support.

Both the Central and State Governments are vigorously promoting continuous water supply systems under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he said. “The aim is not merely to improve water supply but also to ensure water and power conservation, sustainable management, and precise use of technology,” he added.

With robust planning, technical assistance, and effective management across both urban and rural areas, Karnataka is moving ahead rapidly. Advani further stated that the state is already recognized as one of the most proactive and reliable participants in implementing sustainable water resource projects in the country.

During the visit, he interacted with residents of Chidambara Nagar, who expressed satisfaction over the work being carried out by Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Speaking on the occasion, World Bank water supply engineer Anand Jalakum recalled, “Fifteen years ago, this part of Belagavi was first selected for a pilot 24×7 water supply project, but it could not be completed for various reasons. It is heartening to see the project now successfully implemented.”

“It is indeed a matter of pride that Belagavi is among the first cities in India where a continuous water supply project has been completed,” he added.

He appreciated the cooperation of local representatives and residents in making the project a success and hoped for their continued support.

Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi said, “We are happy that this facility has become a reality due to the special efforts of MLA Abhay Patil. The L&T company entrusted with the responsibility of the project has worked efficiently. Though there were initial challenges, officials responded promptly, and we are now hopeful that water scarcity will no longer trouble us.”

Residents shared their past experiences of water shortage and expressed gratitude for the improved situation.

KUWS&DB officials Somasekharappa, Capt. Shambha Bhatt, B KB RAJU, M. Anjanappa, S.S. Hatti, Vijayanand Sollapure, Subhash Bhajannavar, L&T’s Nagaraj Sogale, Dheeraj, M.K. Mangonda, Prof. Aruna Nayik, J.J. Nayik, Aravind Hunagund, Sangeeta Beedi, and Asha Dandina were present at the event.

On this occasion, World Bank representatives were felicitated.
